El Punt Avui highlights the history and mission of the Farinera Girona Foundation
21/10/2025
El Punt Avui has published an opinion article entitled “Reflection, Action and Growth”, which thoughtfully revisits the history of the Farinera Teixidor — from the times it faced possible ruin to its restoration and transformation into a space for ideas, while emphasising the Farinera Girona Foundation’s creation and mission
A space with history and a spirit of transformation
28 years ago, at the end of September, the rehabilitation works of the Farinera Teixidor got underway. Designed by the architect Rafael Masó, this iconic building fell into a state of deterioration during the final decade of the 20th century. At that time, the businessman Joan Bosch Roura acquired it and, with a project led by the architect Arcadi Pla, carried out the comprehensive renovation that gave it new lease of life.
Following its restoration, the building became — from the year 2000 onwards — the headquarters of the newspaper El Punt Avui, which occupied it until 2015. The newspaper worked in a building steeped in history and at the same time adapted to journalistic needs, which was considered a luxury by many. Subsequently, after a period of limited activity but not abandonment, the space was brought back to life through the Girona Hub project, turning it into a factory of ideas and innovation.
The Farinera Girona Foundation takes shape
Amid this shared legacy, on 15 January 2025 the Farinera Girona Foundation was launched, with the aim of becoming much more than an incubator: a meeting point for reflection, action and growth. The article recalls that the foundation is made up of 27 trustees, with an executive committee of nine, and that nearly thirty active entrepreneurship projects have already been launched.
The defining values of the project – effort, honesty, non-discrimination, respect for human rights and sustainability – are cited as fundamental axes. The emphasis is also on how the foundation supports entrepreneurs without judging their projects: letting them make their own decisions, and letting the market end up validating them.
Gratitude and a look towards the future
The Farinera Girona Foundation would like to express our sincere gratitude to El Punt Avui for dedicating space to recounting the history of the Farinera while also highlighting our mission and values. The article helps to make visible a narrative: this Farinera not only preserves its physical structure, but continues to reinvent itself and adapt to the contemporary needs of the local region.
The public recognition offered in this journalistic piece reinforces our commitment to continue working with rigour, passion and collective vision. Just as the building has gone from a flour factory to a news factory and now to a factory of ideas, we strive for the Foundation to be a constant engine of transformation, putting our energy at the service of entrepreneurs and the sustainable growth of Girona and its surrounding regions.
